The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous has officially signed a contract for the construction of a new amphitheatre. Multibuild Ltd has been selected as the project contractor, with the cost of the works amounting to €2,657,590 excluding VAT. Municipal authorities describe the project as one of the most significant for the development of the region. The new amphitheatre will form part of a renovated public space next to the town hall and will provide a modern venue for cultural, educational and community events. Construction will begin on September 1, 2026, with the works expected to be completed within 16 months.
Project Details
The project involves the creation of a modern open-air venue designed to host concerts, theatrical performances, festivals, official ceremonies and other large-scale events. The main features of the venue include:
- 490 seats for spectators;
- 14 spaces specially designed for people with disabilities;
- panoramic views of Chrysochous Bay;
- modern infrastructure for cultural and community events.
Thanks to its attractive location, the amphitheatre is expected to become one of the new landmarks of western Cyprus. It is anticipated to host events at both municipal and national level.
Project Funding and Importance for the Region
The construction will be co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development under the EU Common Agricultural Policy for 2023–2027. The funding is being coordinated by the European Funds Directorate of the Cyprus Ministry of Interior.
Support for projects of this kind is aimed not only at developing rural and coastal areas but also at creating modern public infrastructure capable of attracting tourists, investors and new cultural initiatives.
