The Cyprus Department of Environmental Protection has granted authorisation for the transformation of part of the Amatos River bed, located in the Germasoia area of Limassol, into a new linear park.
The section in question is approximately 340 metres long and begins at Daidalidon Street and ends at Vasileos Georgiou Avenue.
The local municipality has confirmed that the project will cost 2.8 million euros. Work will begin as soon as all the necessary documents have been issued and will last 12 months.
It is important to note that the area where the linear park will be built is currently used mainly as a car park. According to the plan, the new public space will be part of a larger project that covers an area 6 kilometres long from the Limassol seafront to the Germasoya Reservoir. This project is divided into three phases, but the exact timeline for realisation is not yet known.
.
The new park in the Germasoyia neighbourhood will be equipped with:
- The new park will feature green areas.
- The new park will have bicycle and pedestrian paths.
- The park will also have space for events and performances.
- The park will also feature viewing platforms overlooking it.
- A rainwater drainage channel will be installed.
- There will be bleachers with seating.
A 78-metre-long metal pergola with a perforated/open top will be installed for planting climbing plants.
The main objective of the project is to create a linear park in the form of an ecological corridor with a focus on aquatic ecology.
