A large-scale project is being realised in the Engomi district of Nicosia. It will include residential, commercial, educational, tourist and medical facilities.
The Cypriot Orthodox Church is spearheading this initiative.
The land plot allocated for the project belongs to the Kykkos Monastery. The development will span an impressive 331,450 m2, with 324,855 m2 dedicated to various buildings.
- 32% (63,526 m2) will be residential;
- 28% (56,586 m2) - office premises;
- 15% (35,733 m2) - commercial buildings;
- 12% (23,821 m2) - hotel complex;
- 6% (11,911 m2) - recreation and entertainment areas;
- 4% (9,940 m2) - educational and other facilities.
The original plans clearly stated that the area would be divided into seven plots, which was later changed to eight. Now, it has finally been defined as 12 separate development zones. The Nicosia Local Plan allows for a single mixed use development of the area, including residential, commercial, office and hotel developments.
A special meeting of representatives of the Cypriot Orthodox Church is set to approve the final project on 24 March, after which it will be presented to the public.
