A new park has been inaugurated in Larnaca.
The event was attended by the Cypriot Minister of the Interior, Constantinos Ioannou.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ioannou said that the creation of the European History Park was an important event not only for the coastal city, but also for the whole island. He described Cyprus' accession to the EU in 2004 as one of the most important achievements since the country gained sovereignty.
Since then, the benefits we enjoy as European citizens have contributed to the positive transformation of our country. Today, Cypriot citizens can travel, study, work and live freely in any other EU Member State. We have seen and continue to see the practical application of the fundamental European principle of solidarity in many major and serious issues such as the economic crisis, the pandemic and immigration," the Minister stressed
Напомним, что новый парк расположен в районе Арадиппу, на окраине национального лесного парка Ризоэлиас.
Реализацией проекта занималась компания Stelios Kounnas & Sons Constructions Ltd. Новое общественное пространство площадью около 1 тысячи м2 посвящено традициям, ценностям и культуре стран, входящих в ЕС. По периметру парка стоят экспонаты, которые будут знакомить посетителей с историей создания и развития ЕС. В частности, проект включает в себя гравированную карту Европы и картину на стекле, которая перекликается с мифом похищении Европы Зевсом, повсюду оборудованы таблички, содержащие важную информацию о каждой из стран-членов ЕС. Например, о столице, населении, языках и годе вступления государства в Евросоюз.
Как ожидается, новый парк будут посещать школьники и студенты со всего Кипра, которые смогут узнать подробнее о европейских странах.
Бюджет проекта оценивается в 333 тысячи евро. Все средства на его создание были выделены муниципалитетом Арадиппу. Строительство нового парка продолжалось около одного года.
The new park is located in the district of Aradippou, on the edge of the Rizoelias National Forest Park.
The project was carried out by Stelios Kounnas & Sons Constructions Ltd. The new public space of approximately 1,000 m2 is dedicated to the traditions, values and culture of the EU Member States. Along the perimeter of the park, some exhibits familiarise visitors with the history of the creation and development of the EU. In particular, there is an engraved map of Europe, a stained-glass window depicting the myth of Zeus' abduction of Europe, and signs throughout the park providing key information about each EU country. For example, the capital city, population, languages and the year the country joined the EU.
The new park is expected to be visited by schoolchildren and students from all over Cyprus, who will be able to learn more about the European countries.
The budget for the project is estimated at 333,000 euros. All the funds for its creation were provided by the municipality of Aradippou. The construction of the new park took about a year.
