92 Families in Cyprus to Receive Property Title Deeds This Autumn

Cyprus Minister of Interior Konstantinos Ioannou, speaking on behalf of the President at the opening ceremony of the Tsiaikkilero multifunctional park, made an important announcement. According to him, a proposal will be submitted to the Council of Ministers this summer to issue property title deeds and lease certificates for 92 residential units. This decision concerns dozens of families who have been waiting for years to formalize ownership documents for their homes and have suffered from bureaucratic delays.

The minister emphasized that the Christodoulides government is particularly sensitive to the problems of displaced persons, focusing on meeting their housing needs and improving their quality of life. The issuance of title deeds will be a real step toward resolving a problem that affects many families on the island.

Why title deeds are so important in Cyprus

In Cyprus, legal ownership of real estate is established only after registration with the Land Registry. Without this procedure, buyers have only contractual obligations from the seller, but not full ownership rights. This is why thousands of families have been unable for years—sometimes decades—to freely dispose of their property, whether by selling, gifting, or passing it on through inheritance.

The decision to issue 92 title deeds carries both symbolic and practical significance. It shows that the state has finally begun to move forward in resolving this long-standing issue. Each family receiving the long-awaited document will finally gain peace of mind—their home will no longer be a source of uncertainty but a legally protected asset.

Specific steps and timeline

The Minister of Interior outlined clear timeframes—the proposal will be submitted to the Council of Ministers during the summer of 2026. This means that by autumn, the first beneficiaries are expected to receive their title deeds. For many families, this will mark the end of a long and exhausting process that has lasted for years.

It is important to note that the government does not intend to stop here. The successful resolution of these 92 cases is expected to serve as a model for addressing similar issues across Cyprus. The Ministry of Interior will continue identifying other properties without proper documentation and preparing proposals to grant title deeds to their rightful owners.

A small victory in a larger battle

The issue of unissued title deeds remains one of the most painful in Cyprus. Thousands of homes and apartments across the island still lack officially registered ownership for their actual residents, preventing them from fully managing their property.

The decision regarding these 92 residential units is only the first step—but an important one. It demonstrates that the state is listening to its citizens and is willing to act. Dozens of families are now counting down the days until their right to their own home is finally officially recognized and secured by law.
