The cultural centre of Polis Chrysochous was recently visited by the President of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulidis.
During his visit, he announced that the government of the island state would be allocating 85 million euros to the development of the region.
Christodoulidis outlined plans for the future of this part of the island. In particular, €50 million will be invested in the expansion of the port of Latchi, while the remaining €35 million will be used to complete various infrastructure projects. At the same time, priority will be given to the construction of the Paphos - Polis Chrysochous road, which has been the subject of much debate. The President also stressed that support for the health and education sectors should be a key priority for the local administration in the near future.
This is an area of special importance with special prospects, which requires substantial state support," Christodoulidis said, adding that Polis Chrysochous has significant tourism potential, which the government intends to develop by improving the existing infrastructure.
We would like to remind you that several other major infrastructure projects are currently being implemented in the region. Among the most important are the construction of the Paphos - Polis Chrysochous road and the Polis Chrysochous - Latchi pedestrian walkway.
The Paphos - Polis Chrysochous road will be 31 kilometres long. The first phase, which is now in the active implementation phase, includes the construction of a 15.5km dual carriageway from Agia Marinouda to Strumbi, the creation of roundabouts at Tsada and Strumbi, two 720m tunnels and five 290m bridges, two flyovers and nine underpasses. The cost of the project is estimated at €86.84 million.
The Chrysochous - Latchi pedestrian walkway will be 3.2 kilometres long. It will link two very important tourist sites in the Paphos district. Papachristofis noted that the project has the support of the Minister of Transport, who has granted a €1.2 million grant to the municipality for the realisation of the project.
As for the projects currently under consideration, the list includes: the modernisation and landscaping of the Polis Chrysochous campsite, the construction of a linear park and promenade, a new pedestrian walkway, the creation of a modern playground, a recreation centre on the beach and the construction of a new cemetery, as well as the modernisation of the Polis Chrysochous campsite.
