€4 Million Investment in Zygi’s Development

The small but rapidly developing community of Zygi in the Larnaca region is becoming one of the most promising destinations in Cyprus. The government has announced the implementation of two large-scale public projects with a total budget of around €4 million, aimed at giving the coastal resort a fresh new look and enhancing its appeal for both residents and visitors.

The first project, the reconstruction of the coastal road valued at €1.7 million, is already nearing completion. According to community head Georgia Michael, more than half of the work has been completed, and full completion is expected by August 2026. The renovated seafront will feature modern paving, new sidewalks, street lighting, and a complete replacement of utility networks. This will create a safe and aesthetically pleasing area for walks and leisure for locals and tourists alike.

A Green and Modern Village Center

The second major project, worth over €2 million, focuses on the revitalization of Zygi’s historic village center. Funding has been provided under the THALIA program, which supports the development of rural and coastal areas in Cyprus.

The project includes a complete renewal of the village core, featuring new green spaces, recreation areas, improved pedestrian routes, and architectural lighting. According to Michael, all bureaucratic procedures have already been completed, with the tender for construction to be announced by the end of 2025, and work scheduled to begin in 2026.

Sports, Culture, and Youth Initiatives

Zygi’s development goes beyond infrastructure and urban improvement. The local administration plans to build new sports facilities, including mini-football, volleyball, and basketball courts. This project has already been allocated €457,000, and the Larnaca District Administration has announced the tender. Construction is expected to start in early 2026.

The local council also plans to build an open-air amphitheater, which will host cultural and community events. This project aims to become a focal point for both residents and visitors, strengthening the community’s cultural identity and creating new opportunities for young people.

Fishing and Maritime Heritage Museum: Reviving the Project

One of Zygi’s key cultural initiatives remains the Museum of Fishing and Maritime Heritage. Although construction of the building has been completed, interior works have not yet begun due to a lack of funding.

According to Michael, the administration has applied for a grant under the “Thalassa” program, implemented by the Larnaca Development Company. If funding is approved, the museum will fully open to the public in 2026. It is expected to become not only a cultural center but also a significant tourist attraction, highlighting Cyprus’s centuries-old connection with the sea and fishing.

Growth Prospects and Investment Influx

Zygi is already attracting private investment, with new residential complexes, apartments, and tourist residences worth millions of euros under construction. As Michael noted, these projects strengthen the local economy and create new job opportunities.

“For us, as a community with a history of resettlement, these projects are vital. They give young people the opportunity to stay here, work, and develop our region,” — emphasized Georgia Michael.

Zygi — A New Point of Attraction on the Map of Cyprus

In the coming years, Zygi may become one of the most attractive coastal settlements on Cyprus’s southern shore. The combination of modern infrastructure, cultural heritage preservation, and investment in beautification makes the community a model of balanced development.

With a well-planned strategy and strong government support, Zygi is steadily moving toward becoming a model modern coastal village — a place where it is comfortable to live, relax, and invest.
