The Paralimni–Deryneia Municipality announced the installation of 18 modern shower cabins on the main beaches of Protaras. The new units have been set up on Kapparis, Ayia Triada, Visakia (Cavo Maris), and Potami (Marlita) beaches, with one shower each. Two cabins are now operating on Luma and Pernera beaches, three at the popular Fig Tree Bay, and seven on Vrisi, one of the most visited sections of the coastline. Each shower is equipped with a high-tech water management system and solar panels, making the project both convenient and fully eco-friendly.
Convenience and environmental care
Using the showers costs a symbolic 50 cents for 30 seconds. According to municipal representatives, these funds will go toward maintenance and water usage control, especially during the peak tourist season when Protaras beaches host tens of thousands of visitors.
The solar panels allow the showers to operate without an external electricity source, while the automatic shut-off system prevents water overuse. This approach aligns with the municipality’s commitment to sustainable development and supports Cyprus’s drive toward green infrastructure transformation.

Preventing water waste and improving sanitation
In previous years, beach areas faced issues with excessive water use and stagnant water around older shower units, leading to unsanitary conditions and high maintenance costs. The new system fully resolves these problems, ensuring cleanliness, resource savings, and a tidy appearance along the shoreline.
Moreover, the equipment is made from high-quality materials resistant to saltwater and sunlight, ensuring durability and minimal repair costs.
A step toward sustainable tourism
The Paralimni–Deryneia Municipality emphasized that this project is part of a broader strategy to modernize Protaras’s beach infrastructure, aimed at improving visitor experience while implementing eco-friendly solutions. The installation of “smart” showers marks another step toward sustainable tourism, where visitor comfort goes hand in hand with environmental care.
