Over the years, we've become accustomed to buying furniture for our homes at IKEA, but sometimes we long for variety. Wherever you go, your eyes are drawn to a lamp, sofa, or chair, and automatically, "LACK table, 5 euros," pops into your head. I had three of those.
On Cyprus, there's a huge and very popular classic IKEA store in Nicosia, complete with a café serving delicious meatballs with lingonberry sauce. There's also a smaller branch in Limassol with the essentials. Cypriots enjoy going to IKEA for lunch or visiting on weekends with their families.
In general, Scandinavian furniture culture has conquered Cyprus. Nevertheless, alternatives do exist!
We've picked out a few options for you:
Polihome
This is a Greek manufacturer of budget furniture. There are small showrooms in Limassol and Nicosia. When buying furniture from them, you'll have to wait about two weeks for delivery from Greece. It's a decent store to choose a table or wardrobe without breaking the bank. You can buy a TV stand for as low as 35 euros, and a sofa on sale for 352 euros. Polihome also offers a range of cute and budget-friendly bunk beds for children. They have a very extensive selection of affordable kitchen sinks. You can place orders online on their website.
Leroy Merlin
This store specializes in construction and home improvement products. They also have a large selection of kitchen furniture, garden furniture, lighting fixtures, cabinets, and hangers. It's a huge two-story store on the way from Nicosia to Limassol. There's a café on the second floor. Right now, they are having a summer sale, where, for example, a standing clothes rack costs 30 euros, and the most budget-friendly air conditioner is 230 euros. You can place orders online on their website.
Andreotti
A feast for the eyes but a drain on your wallet. Two beautiful showrooms in Limassol. One is not far from Sklavenitis Columbia, and the other is next to the Ajax Hotel. They offer a vast selection of sofas made in Greece and Italy. Prices for sofas start at 2,000 euros, but these are Italian sofas. They also have a wide variety of beds, including children's furniture, writing and dining tables, and many designer chairs and seats. They have affordable shelving units as well. All of this is complemented by an abundance of decor items: designer vases, various paintings, shiny figurines, mirrors, and artificial flower arrangements. Bright designer accents will make your home as individual as possible or help you stand out on Airbnb. The store also has a clearance and seasonal sale area. You can place orders online on their website.
Super Home Center
A construction and household goods store where you'll find paint for finishing work. They also have a small furniture section with very affordable tables, chairs, cabinets, and small cupboards. The store offers rugs, bathroom furniture, and a large selection of garden furniture, as well as lighting fixtures and curtains. A small writing desk for a child starts at 80 euros. You can place orders online on their website.
Pergamos
In Limassol, there's a good two-story store for craft supplies, blanks, packaging, vases, holiday decorations, sugar flowers for cakes, called "Pergamos," which translates from Greek as "paper." They also have a large furniture section. Everything is very beautiful, including designer coffee tables with glass tops or boho-style runners. It's not very cheap, but it's stylish. Again, you might catch a sale. What caught my eye were weathered mirrors designed like antique Greek windows with frames and statues of black monkeys hanging from shelves. You can place orders online on their website.
Antique Shops
Another topic I'd like to write about is the multitude (though it's getting smaller) of antique shops in the cities and charming villages of Cyprus. There, you can find very expensive English wardrobes, as well as stylish mirrored tables and bedside lamps with French charm that are quite affordable.
In the old town of Limassol, for example, there's a little shop where they sell antique Greek beds with large canopies. You can buy a new mattress and also order new curtains for the canopy right there. It would be an unusual and original solution for a bedroom. Alternatively, you can opt for antique floor clocks for your office. You'll need to hunt around a bit if you have the desire, of course.
Good luck in your search! We hope your home will be filled with style and coziness!
