In 1984, the famous co-owner of Studio 54, having finished with the club business, opened a cozy Morgans Hotel on Madison Avenue in New York with his companion Ian Schrager. The innovative project was designed by Andre Putman, who realized the idea of a modern, trendy and cosmopolitan place by combining black and white. It was on this contrast that all the interiors and materials in the hotel - from mosaics to textiles - were built.
Later, the companions opened the Paramount and Royalton. This time, however, Philippe Starck had a hand in the design. In Paramount he did a simple and ingenious thing: all interiors were made in white, the only color spot - giant copies of Vermeer's paintings - was made in the headboards of beds. Later it turned out that this is exactly what fashionable New Yorkers and guests of the city need. By the way, the new hotels were incredibly busy. Even in the low season their occupancy rate was over 95%.
Interestingly, these boutique hotels were not small: one of them had more than 200 rooms, the second one had over 600 rooms. So the statement that a boutique hotel is necessarily a chamber space of 50, maximum 100 rooms is far from reality.
