Cost of Vacation in Cyprus: Three Options for Any Budget

Everyone has their own preferences for leisure. For some, the ideal vacation is a couple of weeks on a sunbed at the beach with a nearby bar and several restaurants within the hotel's premises, offering all-inclusive service. Others enjoy exploring and visiting historical landmarks, museums, and attractions during their travels. Many also travel to experience the cuisine of other countries, taste local wines, and discover new gastronomic combinations. For some, a vacation is unthinkable without activity, be it long walks, water sports, hiking, or scuba diving. Some love the sea, others the mountains, and for some, both passions are equally appealing.

Cyprus offers all of this in abundance - attractions, diving, tropical beaches with pink sunrises and crimson sunsets, mountain villages with picturesque houses, narrow streets, wineries, pine forests, and waterfalls, ancient city ruins, shopping, dance clubs until dawn, world-class spa treatments, and much more.

Let's consider three options for a week-long vacation in Cyprus. Our protagonists are an average family with two children. In the first case, they are looking for the most budget-friendly vacation, and in the second case, the same plus a car rental. In the third case, we will present an approximate cost of a stay in the best hotels on the island.

Please note that this article does not claim to be entirely objective and provides general indicative information. When planning a trip, it is essential to carefully consider and calculate everything according to your specific needs, season, budget, and preferences.

The main rule of comfortable travel is to plan and book everything in advance, choosing options with free cancellation, which will save you money and nerves in case of unforeseen circumstances.

The cost of a vacation in Cyprus primarily depends on the time of year and the duration of the stay. Keep in mind that in some cases, booking for a longer period can result in lower prices. Naturally, the cost also depends on the hotel or apartment's star rating, level of comfort, location, type of meal plan (self-catering, bed and breakfast, half-board, full-board, all-inclusive, ultra-all-inclusive), and other factors.

Active Budget Vacation

2-3* Hotel or Apartment in a Tourist Area

The most budget-friendly option for a family with children would be renting an apartment in a tourist area. However, before making a decision, compare the cost with hotels in the same price range: you may find a much more comfortable option in an affordable 2-3-star hotel or an apartment rental in a tourist area. Typically, the cost of staying in such hotels starts from 60-80 euros per night, depending on the season and level of comfort.

If you rent an apartment and plan to cook at home, the cost of groceries will be around 20-30 euros per day, depending on what you'll be eating. Of course, the cost of a bowl of cereal with milk or a sandwich differs significantly from a gourmet breakfast with cheeses, cold cuts, pastries, and freshly squeezed juice.

In Cyprus, fruits, vegetables, and fresh herbs are inexpensive throughout the year. The country offers excellent dairy products like natural yogurt and cheeses. Chicken, fish, and meat are also of excellent quality and reasonably priced.

Additionally, consider expenses for transportation, entertainment, and other expenditures that may affect the overall cost of your vacation. Overall, a vacation in Cyprus for a family with two children can range from 100-150 euros per day (accommodation, food, transportation, entertainment).

Budget All-Inclusive Vacation

In 2-3-star hotels offering all-inclusive packages in Cyprus, the cost of accommodation for a family with children in a family-type room starts from 100-150 euros per day and more. It is also worth noting that the concept of "all-inclusive" typically includes meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner - conditions are specified in advance) and some entertainment, but additional services or excursions are paid separately.

Vacation in Mid-Range Hotels on the First Coastal Line or in the Mountains

If you are planning your vacation several months in advance, you will have numerous accommodation options to choose from, and you can find the best one for you. Many Cypriot hotels have undergone major renovations and upgrades during and after the pandemic, and the majority of them are cozy and comfortable, with excellent bathrooms, comfortable mattresses, good sound insulation, and all the other necessary components for a relaxing stay. If you are booking a hotel in the mountains during the colder months, pay attention to the availability of a fireplace – it is not such a rarity in mountain villages.

In recent years, due to the boom in investment tourism real estate, there are also many comfortable modern apartments available for short-term rentals in tourist areas. Of course, each type of accommodation has its pros and cons: when renting an apartment, you will have to take care of your meals yourself, there won't be hotel infrastructure and the many pleasant amenities that make up a comfortable vacation. On the other hand, you will have several advantages: no fixed meal times (breakfast, lunch, dinner), the opportunity to buy local products and cook according to your taste, which is especially important if you follow a specific diet or have allergies or intolerances to certain foods, no lively intrusive neighbors and their children, as well as noisy evening animations and hotel "conveyors."

At the same time, hotels have several undeniable advantages: you don't have to think about meals, laundry, cleaning, and other household matters, there are people to entertain your children and solve many emerging issues. In a good hotel, you will be surrounded by unobtrusive care and comfort, and you will feel like a child again, "visiting grandma," where all that is required of you is to relax intensively.

Prices for stays in such hotels start at around 120-200 euros per night. Remember that each hotel has its style, and when booking, it is worth reading reviews from people who have stayed there before. Reviews like "Even gave sausage!" or "Limited selection of cocktails with the 'all-inclusive' system" should raise a red flag.

Strolls along picturesque mountain trails, swimming in turquoise-blue sea, visiting historical sites, and, of course, the local cuisine – all of this creates unforgettable emotions and happy memories.
