Over the past two years, life in Cyprus has undergone a significant transformation.
According to various estimates, between 80,000 and 100,000 immigrants have moved to the island. Among them are Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians.
Russian-speaking immigrants have predominantly settled in Limassol and its surroundings, leading to a high demand for housing, kindergartens, and schools. Today, we will focus on the recent private schools that have opened in Limassol.
Trinity
In September 2023, a new international school named Trinity opened its doors in Limassol. The school's mission is to "build personal resilience to the challenges of the modern world, making children independent of corporate brands and trends by building a spiritual axis, critical thinking, and developing courage, intellect, and health."
The school occupies two new buildings. The junior classes are located near the zoo on Agiou Andreou Street, while the senior classes are on Spirou Kyprianou Street.
The school follows the IB (International Baccalaureate) system. Upon graduation, students receive an international certificate recognized in most countries worldwide. One of the school's distinct advantages is small class sizes (up to 15 students) and individualized support from a tutor who assists children with various aspects, including language and adaptation to the classroom and a new country.
Education at Trinity begins at the age of six with a preparatory "zero" class. The core subjects in the primary school, including the preparatory class, are literacy (Russian language), reading (literature), English language, mathematics, STEM, art, music, physical education, and morality. In middle school (grades 5-6), subjects such as history, biology, geography, sociology, and information technology (IT) are added. In high school (grades 7-11), there is also an in-depth study of physics and chemistry.
It's worth noting that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) combines biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics, teaching these subjects in relation to one another. Within the "literature" subject, Russian classics and world literature are studied. The history course covers world history, including the history of Cyprus. The instruction is primarily in Russian with a "soft" immersion in the English language.
Despite the high cost (just under 1,000 euros per month), the school has already enrolled two classes and plans for active development in the near future. Parents appreciate the option of making monthly payments.
The Island
For the new school, The Island, a site was cleared in an environmentally clean location in the foothills of Troodos, where a small educational campus was built.
The school opened its welcoming doors in 2022, offering two educational directions: IB (International Baccalaureate) and Waldorf methods. After successfully operating for one year, in 2023, the school expanded to twice its size and now includes a Montessori school as well. Preschool education groups are also available in all directions.
Instruction at the school is conducted in English, with daily Greek language lessons being mandatory. Additionally, children have the option to choose and study either Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, or French twice a week.
Several modern play and sports areas have been constructed on the school grounds. For the Waldorf direction, a small garden has been set up where children cultivate produce, and there is a small poultry yard with chickens and ducks.
Tuition fees for The Island are paid once per trimester, ranging from 1,800 to 5,620 euros, depending on the child's age. Additionally, there is an annual registration fee. Transportation to the school can be arranged via a school bus.
Recently, the school received the prestigious Future Shapers award from TheTechIsland community in the "Educators of the Future" category. The assessment criteria included the school's connections with other schools, institutes, and educational institutions, as well as the support provided to the educational process in terms of funding and resources.
Neo Study Ua
In 2022, a branch of one of the largest private Ukrainian schools, Neo Study Ua, opened in Limassol. The school's main office is in Kyiv, where it has been successfully operating for over 20 years. Day school students follow the curriculum approved by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine. Upon completion of their studies, each student receives a certificate (school leaving certificate according to Ukrainian standards).
In addition to the Ukrainian program, students study school subjects in English in accordance with the curriculum of the University of Cambridge. This guarantees high-quality academic preparation for further admission to schools and universities worldwide.
At present, two classes have been formed in the elementary school. Three lessons a day are conducted in Ukrainian, and three lessons are in English. The school plans to establish fully English-language classes. Tuition at Neo Study Ua is 2,260 euros per trimester (half-day) plus 900 euros for extended care for three months. Classes have a maximum of 16 students. Homework is done with tutors in the classroom. The school also has a mentoring service that provides comprehensive academic support for each child.
Bereshit
Bereshit is a private Jewish school in Limassol. This year marks the third time the school has enrolled students. Instruction is conducted in English and Hebrew. Children study Israeli culture, read the Torah, and celebrate national holidays.
The school is conveniently located at the beginning of the tourist area on Kristaki Kikrani Street and partially at the address Limni, Limassol 3065.
