Larnaca in One Day: A detailed itinerary of the main attractions

One of the oldest cities in Cyprus, Larnaca offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich history and culture of the island in just one day. Despite its modest size, Larnaca is packed with attractions that deserve your attention. If you only have 24 hours to explore this city, follow our itinerary to maximise your time and see the highlights.

8:00 - Breakfast with sea views

Start your day with breakfast on the Finikoudes promenade. This is one of the most popular spots in Larnaca, where the morning breeze and sea views create the perfect atmosphere to start your day. You can choose from a variety of cafes and restaurants serving both traditional Cypriot specialities and international breakfast options.

We recommend a traditional Cypriot breakfast with halloumi, fresh vegetables and olives and a cup of Cypriot coffee. It will give you energy for the whole day. We also have a list of the best places to eat breakfast in Larnaca.

9:00 - Visit to St Lazarus Church

After breakfast you will be taken to one of Larnaca's most important historical monuments, the Church of St Lazarus. This majestic church was built in the 9th century and is an important religious centre. According to legend, the remains of Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead, are buried here. The architecture of the church is striking in its simplicity and grandeur. Don't forget to look inside to see the exquisite iconostasis and feel the special atmosphere of this holy place.

10:00 - Walk along the Salt Lagoon and visit the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque.

After visiting the church, head southwest of the city centre to the Larnaca Salt Lake. This natural wonder is particularly beautiful in spring and autumn, when pink flamingos can be seen on its surface. Even if your visit doesn't coincide with these seasons, a walk around the lake offers stunning views and tranquillity. There is also the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque, one of the most important Islamic shrines in Cyprus. The mosque is located on the shores of the salt lake and is surrounded by palm trees, creating an unusually picturesque landscape. Admission to the mosque is free and you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the place. If you love kittens, bring some food with you and you will be in for an unforgettable surprise.

And if you visit in winter, the Salt Lake is decorated with pink flamingos. You can't get close to them, but you can see a flock of large birds overhead or take photos from a distance.
