14 February in Cyprus: 5 most romantic places for lovers

14 February is the day when flowers triple in price, chocolate becomes a staple food and a candlelit dinner magically turns you into a restaurant sponsor. But if you're in Cyprus, Valentine's Day takes on a special charm: ancient Greek myths, breathtaking views and romance are literally in the air (or is it the scent of souvla?).

The island commemorates the arrival of 14 February with colourful shop windows, themed cafes and restaurants, and florists selling red roses, the main symbol of love and passion. In case you didn't know, Cyprus is the official birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite. So the island is literally wired for romance! True, there is a nuance: Aphrodite was not only famous for her beauty, but also for her... complex character. So if your soul mate suddenly demands attention, an expensive dinner and at least one small box of jewellery on 14 February, know that it is not her fault, it is the spirit of Aphrodite.

Cyprus is often referred to as the island of love. And not for nothing! There are many interesting places associated with this beautiful feeling. I suggest you take a stroll through five places that can be a great option for a romantic picnic at sunset.

Petra tou Romiou Bay - the birthplace of Aphrodite

If love was born anywhere in the world, it was definitely here! The place where the sun sinks into the sea is 25 kilometres east of Paphos. Legend has it that the goddess of love, Aphrodite, came ashore from the foam of the sea on the rocks of Petra tou Romiou to bless the union of true romantics and lovers. It is said that if you swim around the largest rock three times, you will find eternal youth and love!

But be careful! The water is invigorating in February, so if your other half suddenly decides to put the myth to the test, prepare a warm blanket and hot tea. After all, what could be more romantic than saving your loved one from mild hypothermia?

A couple's idea: have a picnic overlooking the sunset and then make a wish by tossing a coin into the sea.

Cape Cavo Greco - magical landscapes and the "bridge of lovers"

This nature reserve is home to many places of significance for couples in love: the Bridge of Sins and Love, the Temple of Ayia Thekla, the Blue Lagoon, the Path of Aphrodite. The rocky cape impresses with its beauty: huge blocks of stone of astonishing shapes, overgrown with pine trees and bushes, against which the rebellious waves crash. And they are so turquoise blue that you cannot believe your eyes.

This is the ideal place for those who, in addition to romance, also want to get their adrenaline pumping. Cavo Greco is a national park with incredible sea caves, scenic trails and the most photogenic lovers' bridge. If your partner loves to take spectacular pictures, the best way to show your love is to be patient and organise a mini photo shoot for them. And if you want to propose, these views will make it sound like a film!

A couple's idea: Come at dawn and greet the new day together overlooking the vast Mediterranean.

The village of Lefkara - lace, silver and pretty streets

Lefkara is one of the few villages in Cyprus that has retained its unique architecture and uniqueness. A stroll through Lefkara gives a couple in love the opportunity to feel like the heroes of a wonderful fairy tale, each chapter of which opens the door to a mysterious, timeless world.

It's like a little piece of Provence in Cyprus. Narrow streets, stone houses, cosy cafes and shops selling handmade lace. It's a pleasure to stroll around here, and you can also find a gift for your soul mate that is sure to be unique.

Leonardo da Vinci is said to have bought lace for the altar of Milan Cathedral in Lefkara. So if your other half loves a good story, you can certainly use this fact in conversation. But be careful! If your girlfriend suddenly sees an antique silver bracelet, be prepared to hear the phrase: "Well, 14 February only comes once a year...".

A couple's idea: Visit one of the traditional cafes and try the Cypriot delicacy loukoum, the sweet symbol of your love.

Governor's Beach - a secluded paradise for two

One of the most romantic spots in Cyprus, just 15 minutes from Limassol. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and spend 14 February in a secluded setting, this beach is for you. Snow-white cliffs, soft sand, clear waters - the perfect setting for a romantic stroll.

And if you dream of a rendezvous under the stars, bring warm blankets, a thermos of tea or something stronger and make a wish as you gaze up at the night sky. Who knows, it could become a new tradition. But be careful. The waves here can be quite active at times. So if you decide to take a photo on the edge of a cliff, hold on to each other!

A couple's idea: A walk along the cliffs at sunset and a declaration of love under the stars.

Aphrodite's Baths - source of eternal youth and love

The Baths are located in the Akamas National Park. According to legend, it was here that Aphrodite met her lover Adonis. Locals believe that washing in the water from the spring will preserve your youth and beauty. Of course, from February onwards, the water is invigorating, but for the sake of love, you can take a little risk. Besides, isn't it romantic to say to your partner: "You're so beautiful to me that you don't need any magic water!

A couple's idea: After a walk in the botanical garden near the spring, write love letters to each other and hide them in a secluded spot - to come back and read them in a few years' time.

Cyprus is the perfect place for lovers, and 14 February is the perfect excuse to treat your partner to an unforgettable day out. Whether it's a walk through ancient sites, a romantic dinner overlooking the sea or a date under the stars, the important thing is that you spend the day together.
