7 cool architectural designs by Philippe Starck

Philippe Starck is a famous French designer and architect whose name is associated with exceptional style.

Born in 1949, Starck has become one of the most influential designers of our time. He is known for his work in various fields including industrial design, architecture and interior design. Philippe Starck also designs household items, furniture, lighting and even vehicles (for example, he designed a yacht concept for businessman Andrei Melnichenko).

Philippe Starck's style is difficult to describe in a single word: his work is at once futuristic, minimalist and luxurious, often combining unexpected uses of materials and forms. There is functionality, innovation - and even a sense of humour - in every design.

Here's a look at what the renowned designer has created in the field of architecture - around the world and in Cyprus.

1. Duravit Design Centre, Hornberg, Germany

The Duravit Design Centre in Hornberg is a prime example of Mr Stark's sense of humour. The fact is that Duravit is a sanitaryware company. So the designer decided that the ideal balcony for such a centre would be in the shape of... a toilet. And why not?

Designed by Philippe Starck, the centre has become the hallmark of Duravit. The building's unique architecture combines functionality and avant-garde design, with huge glass facades and dynamic shapes. The Centre serves not only as an exhibition space, but also as a venue for a wide range of events and meetings.

2. PATH Modular Homes, France

The PATH (Prefabricated Accessible Technological Homes) project is an innovative initiative to create modular homes using modern technology. Philippe Starck has developed a concept for the construction company Rico that combines environmentally friendly materials, energy-efficient systems and flexible layouts. PATH modular homes can be adapted to different climatic conditions, allowing them to be built literally anywhere in Europe. They are equipped with solar panels and have an excellent architectural design.

Fun fact: Philippe Starck liked his own project so much that he ordered one of these houses from Rico... for himself. It is now one of his residences in Montfort-l'Amaury, where he likes to spend a lot of time.

3. Asahi Beer Hall Office Complex, Tokyo, Japan

The Asahi Beer Hall in Tokyo is one of the most famous buildings designed by Philippe Starck. Also known as the Flaming Golden House, the complex is notable for its unusual shape and the striking golden element on the roof. The golden element is an unusually shaped beer drop, and the building itself resembles a beer mug with foam on top.

The building has become a symbol of Asahi and one of Tokyo's architectural landmarks. The interiors of the Asahi Beer Hall are also designed in Stark's characteristic style, combining originality and functionality.

4. Nani-Nani Business Centre, Tokyo, Japan

The Nani-Nani Business Centre is another project designed by Philippe Starck for the Japanese capital. It is another example of his bold approach to architecture and comes at the beginning of the designer's career. The building is striking for its undulating façade structure, which creates the illusion of movement.

Inside, the centre provides state-of-the-art office space and meeting and conference facilities. The Nani-Nani project demonstrates Stark's ability to create innovative and attractive commercial spaces.

Interestingly, 'nani-nani' can be translated from Japanese as 'what-what'. Perhaps Mr Stark wanted to emphasise the surprise that the building evokes when you first see it. It makes you want to ask: 'What-what?

5. Le Nuage Wellness Centre, Montpellier, France

Le Nuage, which means 'cloud' in French, is a unique wellness centre in Montpellier. The French have called it an 'inflatable building': indeed, it looks as if it has been inflated from the inside.

The project includes gymnasiums, swimming pools, spas and recreational areas. The building stands out for its translucent façade and pleasant colours. The interiors of Le Nuage are also designed in Stark's characteristic style: a mixture of futurism, lightness and bold (sometimes daring) solutions

6. The winery for Châteaules Carmes Haut-Brion, Bordeaux, France.

Philippe Starck designed the winery for Château les Carmes Haut-Brion in the Bordeaux region of France, not on his own but in collaboration with the LAHAT architectural studio. The project includes production facilities, wine cellars and tasting rooms. Curiously, the building, in the shape of a massive metal 'blade', is completely surrounded by water. This is done so that the wines at the lowest level of the winery can be kept under natural thermoregulation. In this way, the creators of this masterpiece have once again taken sustainability into account.

Stark has used natural materials and innovative technology to create a space that enhances the uniqueness and quality of Château les Carmes Haut-Brion wines. He has also started a tradition of having artists paint vats of wine. It is hoped that the cellar will soon become a small museum.

7. YOO Housing Complex, Limassol, Cyprus

Philippe Starck has not ignored sunny Cyprus. The result is the YOO residential complex in Limassol. It is also one of Philippe Starck's most prestigious projects. The complex offers luxurious apartments with panoramic sea views, swimming pools, fitness centres and spas. The interiors of YOO are designed in a style that combines modern design and comfort. The YOO complex has become a symbol of elegant and comfortable property in Limassol, attracting the attention of both locals and foreign investors.

Buying properties in Cyprus, especially in such complexes as YOO, can be not only a profitable investment, but also a way to improve the quality of life. Limassol property is characterised by a high level of comfort, modern amenities and a great location on the Mediterranean coast.

In addition, the purchase of property in Cyprus costing from 300 000 euros gives the right to accelerated obtaining of a permanent residence permit of the Republic of Cyprus. This is a great opportunity for third-country nationals wishing to live and work in Europe. Cyprus offers a stable economy, a favourable climate and a high level of security, making it an ideal place to live and invest.
