The Sales (or Leasing) Agreement was signed, all taxes and deposits were paid. And you are looking forward to moving into your home. But… do not forget about another main step - transfer utility bills on your name!
Do not worry, it is a common practice in Cyprus. First of all, the debts for electricity and water, that were before the date of ownership of the real estate or leasing should be paid by the previous owner or tenant.
Be sure, that all metering devices for electricity and water supply are working properly, and there are no debts.
If everything is ok, you can start transferring them into your name. It is very easy to do!
For transferring the electricity contract, you should go to one of the offices of The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) in Limassol. The addresses are the following:

When the tenant wants to transfer electricity on his name, he must bring the following documents:
- Lease Agreement
- Identity card or passport
- D eposit
When the owner wants to transfer electricity on his name, he must bring the following documents:
- Purchase Agreement or Title Deeds
- Identity card or passport
- Deposit (The owners are charged on the first bill)
For both variants, a deposit should be paid.
The deposit depends on the status of the customer - is an EU citizen or not. For example, for third-country nationals, the deposit for the tenants will be 350 EUR, and for the owners - only 50 EUR.
NB! The procedure of transferring is free.
When all documents will be signed, you will get an Agreement and receipt for the payment of the deposit. It will take about 2 business days for the re-issuance of an account on your name. If you will have any questions, you can contact the EAC by telephone 1800.
Almost the same process in the Limassol Waterboard office.
The water supply in Cyprus is handled by Waterboard. All customers should contact one of the branches to re-issue the contract on their own names.

To transfer the contract, the tenant should provide the following documents:
- Identity card or passport
- Lease Agreement

- Deposit
For third-country nationals, the deposit for the tenants will be 250 EUR, and for the owners - only 50 EUR. But, in the different cities and regions of the island, the deposit may be different.
NB! The procedure of transferring is free of charge.
When all documents will be signed, you will get an Agreement and receipt for the payment of the deposit. It will take up to 3 business days for the re-issuance of an account on your name. If you will have any questions, you can contact the Water Board by telephone 25 830 000.
NB! All deposits for electricity and water are fully refunded upon the termination of the contacts. Or it could be used to pay off the invoices.
