5 modern sports clubs in Larnaca

Larnaca Seaside is gradually losing its unpromising 'fly in and forget it' status. This process is being accelerated thanks in part to targeted government programmes. Barbarian Fitness Centre

Located in the Kiti area, the Barbarian Fitness Centre is licensed by the Cyprus Sports Federation and uses the latest trends in its work.   1. BODYATTACK - cardio training to develop strength and endurance. It combines aerobic movements with strength-building exercises. Classes are held to rhythmic music.
  2. BODBALANCE - a combination of Yoga, Tai-Chi and Pilates. It develops strength and flexibility. You also begin to feel relaxed and centred. Controlled breathing and a series of stretches bring the body into a state of harmony and balance.
  3. BODYCOMBAT is a strength group cardio-fitness workout. The energetic programme is based on mixed martial arts such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai. It builds confidence, coordination and agility.
  4. BODYPUMP - Classes using dumbbells and other weights to strengthen and tone the whole body. The emphasis is on light weight exercises with frequent repetitions. This burns a lot of fat and builds muscle mass.
  5. BODYSTEP - Workouts using height adjustable steps. Cardio blocks trigger fat-burning systems, followed by muscle activation, sculpting and toning your body. Classes are also accompanied by music.
  6. SHBAM workouts combine simple yet energetic dance moves. Each 45-minute class is active and varied. Classes are accompanied by modern music hits.

  1. RPM - Indoor exercise bike classes. Variable resistance pedalling simulates riding in the mountains and across the plains and is primarily designed to work the legs.
  2. GRIT SERIES - High-intensity interval training is one of the hottest fitness trends. Sharp, short bursts of effort allow you to reach maximum intensity levels and this is the secret to athletic performance.
  3. ZUMBA is a dance fitness programme created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez in the 1990s. It is a combination of dance and aerobic exercise. Zumba choreography includes hip-hop, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo and martial arts. It also involves squats and lunges.
  4. TRX - the whole body is worked during the class. The exercises performed maintain muscle mass, increase metabolism and strengthen tendons. The centre also offers individual training, nutritionist services, dance classes, sports equipment and food supplements.

Aqua Gym

Aqua Gym is a health club located in the central part of Larnaca, close to Peyraios Park and the Apostle Andrew Church. As the name suggests, the focus here is on physical exercise in the pool. Lessons are given to children and adults who do not have good swimming technique. There is also diving training, which is particularly important for the island of Cyprus, and speed swimming training. The pool also offers aqua aerobics classes, which are particularly popular with women. In addition to the pool, the following classes are organised in the dry halls:

  1. BODYPUMP - classes with dumbbells and other weights with frequent repetitions. As a result, the body is seriously toned and the general physical condition is improved.

  3. Yoga - Those who enjoy practicing yoga assume the necessary postures, control correct breathing and make mental efforts to develop strength, endurance, flexibility and concentration. These activities provide a sense of wellbeing, promote psychological balance and neutralise stress.

Bare Knuckle Crossfit

Bare Knuckle CrossFit was founded in January 2014, bringing together like-minded individuals who expressed an interest in CrossFit classes. Since then, the community has continued to grow and the club of the same name has become known for its high standards of coaching and emphasis on injury and overuse prevention. The centre's staff believe that everyone's success and happiness is linked to their health and fitness.

Crossfit is a high-intensity, total-body, functional workout that combines cardio and strength training. The latter includes work with barbells, kettlebells and bar exercises. Classes train the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, strength, endurance, flexibility, speed, agility and coordination. Crossfit classes are part of the mandatory training programme of special military and civilian units in a number of countries. It is not necessary to be in good physical shape to start this type of activity. On the contrary, it is necessary to start Crossfit in order to achieve this result. Crossfit will bring about many positive changes in the body and the way it works. Of course, the choice of trainer and training programme is determined by the level of physical fitness of each visitor. During the first session, the trainer will familiarise beginners with the exercises to be performed, their objectives and intensity.
