Promenade in the Agios Tychonas Area of Limassol Closed to the Public

Representatives of the Amathus municipality reported the need to carry out urgent restoration work on the coastal section in the Agios Tychonas area after a powerful storm that occurred recently in Limassol. The natural disaster caused significant damage to the promenade, which was already in a worn condition.

It is worth noting that it is considered one of the most popular walking areas in the city. Local residents, tourists, and athletes walk here every day. However, decades without major repairs have led to serious deterioration of the infrastructure. The recent storm intensified the destruction and raised concerns about public safety.

Closure of the wooden bridge due to safety risks

The wooden pedestrian bridge was affected the most, so it had to be officially closed to visitors. According to the municipality, the structure suffered visible damage due to strong wave impacts. Access to the bridge is prohibited until the technical inspection is completed and the necessary restoration work is carried out.

The municipality emphasized that the decision was made to prevent accidents. Residents and tourists are urged to follow warning signs and avoid fenced-off areas.

Full reconstruction instead of temporary repairs

The mayor of Amathus, Kyriakos Xydias, stated that the situation no longer allows for only partial repairs. According to him, the promenade requires a comprehensive rethinking and complete renovation.

The municipality intends to implement a large-scale reconstruction project of the coastal zone with modern design and improved storm protection. It is planned to create a safe and aesthetically attractive space that will become a true hallmark of Limassol.

A project worth millions of euros and government support

According to preliminary estimates, the reconstruction will cost several million euros. City authorities expect financial support from the government of Cyprus, as the area is considered a strategically important tourist and public zone.

The Agios Tychonas promenade is located in the eastern part of Limassol and attracts thousands of tourists every year. In the context of climate change and increasingly frequent storms, strengthening the coastline is becoming especially relevant for the entire coast of Cyprus.

The municipality has already begun work on securing funding and developing a project for the modern regeneration of the coastal territory. The goal is to create a safe, resilient, and comfortable recreational area for residents and visitors of the island.
