The contract for the construction of the new marina in the Potima area of Paphos is expected to be signed in January 2027. Government sources announced the timeline while responding to renewed concerns in the district regarding possible delays to the major infrastructure project.
According to the latest information, preparations for signing the contract began after legal obstacles had been resolved. The original schedule already envisaged the agreement being signed in January 2027. At present, no new legal or other issues have emerged that could affect the timeline. Authorities expect to complete all the necessary preparatory procedures within the established timeframe so that the project will be ready to move to the contract-signing stage by January.
The Scale and Key Features of the Project
The new marina will accommodate 1,000 yachts and boats, with 70–80% of the berths located in the water and the remainder on land. The future complex will cover approximately 165,000 m² and will include not only marine and onshore facilities for servicing yachts but also residential and commercial developments. The project also provides for the possible construction of hotels and infrastructure capable of accommodating cruise ships.
The marina is being positioned as a key project for the development of marine tourism in Paphos and is expected to become an important component of the government's infrastructure improvement program for the city and surrounding areas, valued at more than €230 million.
The new facility will be developed in accordance with environmental requirements and international standards. Authorities have emphasized that the expansion of coastal infrastructure must be balanced with environmental protection and the principles of long-term economic sustainability.
The Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality Are Working Together
In recent months, Cyprus' Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Akamas have been working closely on the implementation of the project. Government officials have emphasized the importance of this cooperation, as the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is responsible for overseeing the development of the Paphos marina.
The project is considered strategically important for Paphos. The creation of a large yacht marina has long been a priority for local authorities, businesses, and residents, who expect it to strengthen tourism infrastructure and enhance the region's attractiveness.
If the current schedule remains unchanged, January 2027 will become a key milestone for the project. For now, authorities maintain that preparatory work is progressing according to schedule and that no new obstacles have emerged. Once the contract is signed, the project will move to the next phase — the actual construction of what is expected to become Cyprus' largest yachting infrastructure development.
