Residents of Apartment Building In Germasogeia: Our Complex To Collapse At Any Moment

As residents of an apartment building on Agios Ilarion Street in Germasogeia, Limassol have lived in fear that their complex could collapse at any moment.

The problem is that the building was erected on the side of a mountain. According to the rules, the developer was supposed to build a retaining wall for the complex, but they did not. By the way, this is a serious violation, which, as a result, could turn into a real disaster. It should be noted that the residents of the ill-fated complex have repeatedly addressed this problem to the municipality of Germasogeia. But local officials just shrug their shoulders.

Жильцы многоквартирного дома в деревне Гермасойя заявили, что их комплекс в любой момент может обрушиться

In turn, a member of the management committee of the apartment building also confirmed that the situation is extremely serious.

The residents wrote a letter to the mayor and the municipal council of Germasogeia, asking them to help residents build a retaining wall that should be constructed here. The developer erected a residential building, sold apartments and has since disappeared without a trace. We have been struggling with this problem for about 10 years. During this time, nothing has been done to help us in any way, - complains a member of the management committee of the apartment building

It is noteworthy that the mayor of Kyriakos Xydias has a slightly different opinion on this matter. According to him, the problem is very serious and the employees of the municipality are now doing everything possible to resolve this issue.

The retaining wall must be done immediately. We have obtained and received the consent of the owners who live under this apartment building. They allowed a retaining wall to be built within their property, the mayor said.

He also stressed that the municipality cannot issue title deeds to any of the apartment owners in the complex until the problem with the retaining wall is finally resolved.

Title Deed is the main owner's document of real estate or land in Cyprus, which confirms and secures the owner's right to a specific object.

Finally, he noted that the municipality had already contacted the owners of the complex. The officials informed the apartment owners about their readiness to provide assistance in resolving the issue. However, they will have to cover the costs of building the retaining wall at their own expense, since it will be built for private needs.
