The works on the creation of the “Pattichio” park in Larnaca are in their final stage. Initially, the project was planned to be fully completed by the end of 2025; however, during implementation, the municipality announced that the facility would be put into operation in stages and will become available to residents and visitors already in March or April 2026. This approach will allow public areas to open gradually without waiting for the formal completion of all works.
Why the deadlines changed and what was revised in the project
The delay is related to changes in the initial concept of the park. After public discussions and reactions from some residents, it was decided to abandon the construction of a skatepark and sports grounds with concrete surfaces. These elements were considered excessive for an area with high environmental value.
Additionally, the municipality decided to use exclusively environmentally safe materials on all pedestrian paths that do not disrupt the water balance and microclimate of the area. The pace of construction was also affected by restrictions set by the Game and Fauna Service, which regulated construction site working hours in consideration of bird migration and seasonal natural processes.
Environmental focus and proximity to the Salt Lake
The “Pattichio” park will be located next to the Larnaca Salt Lake — one of the most important natural sites in Cyprus, known as a wintering place for migratory flamingos and other rare bird species. It was precisely the proximity to this unique site that became a key factor in revising the project.
Environmentalists insisted on reducing construction intensity and expanding green areas to minimize the impact on the ecosystem. In the updated version of the project, the number of shaded areas and natural landscape elements has been increased, which is especially important amid rising temperatures and climate changes in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

What will appear in the updated park
According to the latest statements from the Larnaca municipality, the park will be oriented toward calm recreation and contact with nature. The space includes walking routes, waterside relaxation areas, and zones for family leisure. The idea of creating an interactive eco-museum dedicated to the Salt Lake, local flora, and birdlife is also being discussed. This project is currently at the consultation stage with environmentalists and specialized organizations.
Green strategy of the city and already implemented projects
The development of the “Pattichio” park fits into Larnaca’s broader strategy to expand green and recreational infrastructure. Authorities emphasize that the updated concept makes the park more harmonious, sustainable, and valuable as a natural and cultural space. It is expected that “Pattichio” will enhance Larnaca’s attractiveness for residents, tourists, and investors while preserving the unique natural character of the Salt Lake area.
