The mayor of the city talked about the development of the coastal zone near Livadia.

The dismantling of oil tanks in the coastal zone of Larnaca continues.

The old plans of the city mayor Andreas Vyras have finally begun to come true.

First, Hellenic Petroleum (EKO) demolished their tanks at the end of April. Now other companies located here are expected to do the same.

Meanwhile, it became known that it is planned to build a promenade with a length of 3-4 km instead of the oil and gas facilities.

According to Andreas Vyras, the promenade will look like Piyale Paşa Avenue.

'This is part of an ambitious plan to modernize the area. Its implementation should begin in the near future', - said the mayor.

He also stressed that work on the demolition of oil tanks in Larnaca should be completed by the end of 2021. The parties interested in the fuel and gas industry have already promised to complete the work on the transfer of their oil reservoirs to the fuel terminals in Vasiliko within this time.

На месте нефтяных резервуаров в Ларнаке появится променад

As you may know, the demolition of oil reservoirs in the city has been a long-standing problem that has kept down the development of Larnaca for decades.

After the closure of the oil refinery in 2004, an oil storage facility was created here. It was held by the private fuel companies operating in Cyprus, as well as the government agency KODAP, which is responsible for maintaining the strategic fuel reserves in Cyprus.

For many years, Vyras fought for the right to dismantle oil storage tanks, which, on the one hand, are a symbol of industry, and on the other hand, an example of monstrous interference in nature. Fortunately, his efforts were not in vain.

Earlier it was also reported that the area of the former oil refinery in Larnaca will soon turn into an oasis of paradise. According to some reports, dozens of 15-storey skyscrapers (68 meters high), as well as shops, shopping centers, sports and commercial facilities, a network of pedestrian and bicycle paths, and a steam zone are planned to be erected on the site of the long-defunct enterprise.
