On Wednesday 19 May, the leader of the Cyprus DISY party, Averof Neofytou, and the Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, visited the site where the new Paralimni Marina is being constructed.
The head of PMV MARINATE HOLDING LTD, responsible for the implementation of this project, Anthoulis Kountouris gave him a tour of the facility.
Work on the construction of the new Paralimni Marina began a couple of days ago. The dream of several decades is finally becoming a reality. I want to tell all the skeptics who did not believe in success that we managed to launch the project. I also want to thank the members of the Kountouris family for the efforts they made to bring this project to life. Paralimni Marina will be the largest and most important development project that will breathe life into the area, enrich and modernize the tourism product of both the Paralimni Municipality and the Famagusta area, and help take a step forward towards completing the strategic planning for the development of nautical tourism on the east coast of our island, - said Pyrillis during the meeting.
The head of PMV MARINATE HOLDING LTD noted that the company had done a lot of work towards the start of construction of the new Paralimni Marina.
The tender for the construction of Paralimni Marina was announced in 2015. Only in 2018 we managed to sign a land lease agreement with the government of the country. After lengthy licensing procedures and obtaining all relevant permits, we were finally able to start implementing the project. For our part, we promise that the new harbor will be built to the best technical specifications. We have already managed to conclude several agreements of an international scale, we hope that our work will bring a new breath to this region, - said Anthoulis Kountouris.
As for the leader of the Cypriot DISY party, Averof Neofytou also congratulated the Kounturis family, which, despite the global economic crisis, was not afraid to embark on a new large-scale project.
I am sincerely glad that the Kuonturis family, in the face of a global economic health crisis with enormous economic consequences and in a country where some thought that the completion of the investment program would destroy the economy, was able to overcome all difficulties. Your energy is the answer to those who predicted disaster for the project. Thanks to the construction of Paralimni Marina, we will make the economy of Cyprus even stronger, - stressed Neofytou.
As you may know, the 29,000 m2 marina will appear in the Pernera area, in the Louma Bay, between the green zone and the fishing pier that has existed here since 1980. The new harbor will be able to accommodate up to 300 yachts.
According to the project, shops, restaurants and bars will be built on the territory of the marina, as well as a residential complex consisting of four luxury villas and six high-rise buildings with 119 apartments. The tallest building will have 10 floors. For the convenience of residents and visitors, a walking path will be built to the beaches of Protaras and a parking lot will be created for as much as 600 parking spaces.
The project cost is estimated at €110 million.
It involves PMV Maritime Holdings Ltd, J&P, Marina Projects Ltd, Nicolaidis & Kountouris Metal Company Ltd. The project architect is Harper Downie Creative Architecture (UK) together with Kythreotis Architects. Landscaping will be handled by Camlins.
The main goal of the project is to build a marina that would have safe and easy access for yachts and boats. It is expected that the creation of a new modern harbor will contribute to the extension of the tourist season and the development of sea tourism for the resorts of the Famagusta region.
It should be noted that the marina was initially conceived as a project that could attract large foreign investors and contribute to the economic development of the region. Nevertheless, even in the current realities, this project attracts investors, but now local ones.
Paralimni Marina will be the third in a network of marinas, the Limassol marina has been operating at full capacity since 2014, and the Ayia Napa marina is expected to be completed in 2023.
The Paralimni Marina, which will open in four years, will be the largest development project in the region.
