In the center of Paralimni, the implementation of a major infrastructure project has begun — the construction of a covered multi-level parking facility on Antoni Papadopoulou Street. The new facility is being built next to the municipal building and will become one of the key elements in modernizing the urban environment in an area with high traffic load.
The contract for the execution of the works was signed on January 27 between the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia and the company “N. Gavriel & Sons Ltd” (Ν. Γαβριήλ & Υιοί ΛΤΔ). The total cost of the project amounts to 6,762,520 euro, with a significant portion of the funding provided by the Cyprus Department of Town Planning.
Progress of construction works
According to the Mayor of Paralimni-Deryneia, Giorgos Nicoletos, construction work is already actively underway. The underground level has been completed, and the contractor is currently carrying out reinforcement, formwork installation, and concreting of the above-ground structures. At the same time, the installation of electromechanical systems is in progress, which will ensure modern lighting, ventilation, and safety of the facility. Construction will last approximately 18 months. If work proceeds on schedule, the opening of the new parking facility is expected in the second half of 2027.
Features of the new parking facility
The project provides for the construction of two underground and two above-ground levels. The total capacity will be 296 vehicles, which will significantly increase the number of available parking spaces in the center of Paralimni. Special attention is given to accessibility: 19 spaces will be specially equipped for people with disabilities. In addition, three parking spaces are planned for electric vehicles with the possibility of installing charging infrastructure.
For the convenience of drivers and pedestrians, three high-speed elevators will be installed in the building, providing quick access to all levels. Architectural and engineering supervision of the project is carried out by the office AF MODINOS & SA VRAHIMIS CHARTERED ARCHITECTS & ENGINEERS, known for participation in a number of major construction initiatives in Cyprus.
Importance of the project for Paralimni
Municipal authorities emphasize that the construction of the multi-storey parking facility in Paralimni is of strategic importance. The city center, especially during the tourist season, faces a shortage of parking spaces and road congestion. The new facility will help relieve adjacent streets, improve the traffic situation, and create more comfortable conditions for pedestrians and local residents.
Paralimni remains the administrative center of the free areas of Famagusta and is actively developing as a year-round destination rather than only a seasonal resort. In recent years, the municipality has been implementing a comprehensive set of projects to upgrade urban infrastructure, including the improvement of public spaces and modernization of the road network.
It is expected that the launch of the new covered parking facility will become an important step in the development of sustainable urban mobility and will enhance the investment attractiveness of the central part of Paralimni.
