A new photovoltaic park will be built in Larnaca.
The municipality of Larnaca recently announced a tender for the project.
According to the release, the new photovoltaic park will be constructed in Aradippou. The solar power plant will operate using the latest photovoltaic energy technology. Several hundred solar panels will be installed on an area of about 47 thousand m2 allocated for the construction of the park. This will allow residents in the surrounding area to reduce their energy costs.
The ultimate goal of the project is to help meet the region's energy needs and reduce the country's dependence on imported and non-renewable energy sources.
The project will consist of hundreds of panels with a total capacity of 2.96 MW. The park will generate about 1,500 GWh of energy per year.
According to an environmental study, the estimated cost of the proposed project would be about 3.37 million euros. Construction work is expected to start as early as 2023 and will last about 15 months, with the project planned to be implemented in one stage.

Since the sun shines almost 365 days a year in Cyprus, the problem of economical consumption of electricity is solved mainly by the construction of photovoltaic parks.
Unlike burning coal, solar energy does not cause the greenhouse effect that exacerbates global warming. In addition, solar energy can play an important and cost-effective role in overcoming Cyprus' dependence on fossil fuels.
Improved solar energy storage can also increase the sustainability of the energy system. Storing additional energy on sunny days ensures that energy is available during more cloudy weather or when cyclones take out traditional power lines. As a result, consumers in Cyprus can get more stable energy at a lower cost.
By the way, these ambitious investments are not just good climate policy, but a great chance for Cyprus to invest in itself and its future.
