€9 Million to Be Invested in the Development of Geroskipou in Paphos

The Municipality of Geroskipou is continuing a large-scale upgrade of its urban infrastructure. The authorities are implementing five major projects with a total value of around €9 million, covering the road network, public spaces, the historic centre, social facilities, and sports infrastructure. This was announced by Mayor Nikos Palios. According to the mayor, these investments are intended to improve residents' quality of life and make the area even more attractive for tourists, investors, and new families.

New roads and safer traffic

One of the key projects will be the reconstruction of a section of Archbishop Makarios III Avenue in the Konia area. The contract for the works was signed on 11 June with Kakais Constructions. The project provides for the modernization of road infrastructure, improved traffic management, greater safety for motorists and pedestrians, and the upgrading of the adjacent street.

Once completed, this section is expected to become more convenient for residents' daily journeys and help reduce traffic pressure in the area. The development of the road network remains one of the priorities of the new municipality, especially following the administrative reform that merged several communities into a single municipal authority.

The seafront will become a modern leisure area

The improvement of Geroskipou's coastal area is also continuing. The second phase of the €1 million redevelopment of the seaside pedestrian zone is being carried out by Panath Construction. The works cover the section of the seafront from the Phaethon Hotel to Athena Royal, as well as the pedestrian area on the border between the municipality and Paphos.

The area will feature upgraded walking zones, modern lighting, new landscaping elements, and comfortable public spaces. The redevelopment is expected to be completed in around seven months. The renovated seafront is expected to become one of the most popular places for walks among both local residents and tourists.

Historic centre and new social facilities

At the same time, the renovation of Geroskipou's historic centre is continuing. Works are being carried out on the central square and in the Kato Vrysi area, where public spaces and the urban environment are being upgraded. Another important project will be the construction of a modern childcare centre in Konia. The new facility will expand preschool education options and provide additional support for young families, whose numbers in the region continue to grow.

The Olympic swimming pool will get a second life

The municipality has also begun restoring the pool basin of the Geroskipou Olympic Swimming Centre. This sports complex is considered one of the key facilities in the region and is regularly used for training sessions and competitions. According to the mayor, the main construction works are expected to be completed by the end of 2026. After the renovation, the pool will be able to accommodate more athletes and visitors.

Development continues after the municipal reform

All the projects are being implemented by the new Municipality of Geroskipou, which was created as part of the local government reform that came into force in 2024. It includes Geroskipou, Konia, Timi, Acheleia, and Agia Marinouda. In addition to the five major projects, the authorities have already modernized eight municipal parks, announced an architectural competition for the redevelopment of the Michalis Pavlidis Sculpture Park, and started preparing a master plan for a new sports centre between Geroskipou and the coast.

The municipality expects that the comprehensive infrastructure upgrade will increase the area's appeal for living, leisure, and investment, while also strengthening Geroskipou's position as one of the most dynamically developing suburbs of Paphos.
